The Challenge
Dallas Animal Services is one of the largest intake shelters in the country. They needed a modern, high-performance website that could handle heavy traffic and provide a seamless user experience for potential adopters. The biggest challenge was the “Adoption Gallery.” Because the shelter’s inventory changes by the hour, manual updates were impossible. They needed a sophisticated technical solution to sync their internal animal database with the website automatically.
The WebCitz Solution
Launched in 2022, the new BeDallas90 website transformed the shelter’s digital capabilities:
- Custom WordPress Architecture: We built a bespoke WordPress theme designed for speed, accessibility, and mobile-first browsing. This ensures that users on any device can easily navigate through adoption resources, foster programs, and volunteer opportunities.
- Seamless Adoption System Integration: We developed a custom integration with their animal shelter management software. This API-driven system pulls photos, descriptions, and status updates for hundreds of animals directly into the website’s “Available Pets” gallery. When an animal is adopted or a new pet arrives, the website reflects that change quickly and accurately.
- UX/UI for High-Stress Situations: Navigating animal services can be emotional. We designed the interface to be clean, friendly, and highly intuitive, helping users find specific information (like “Lost and Found” or “Low-Cost Clinics”) with minimal clicks.
- Routine Maintenance & Technical Oversight: Since the launch in 2022, WebCitz has provided ongoing maintenance. This includes managing WordPress core updates, ensuring the API connection remains stable, and performing security monitoring to protect the site’s high-traffic infrastructure.
- Scalable Infrastructure: Because the site is a vital municipal resource, we ensured the build was robust enough to handle the spikes in traffic that occur during major adoption events or regional emergencies.
The Result
The partnership with BeDallas90 has resulted in a world-class digital platform for one of the nation’s most important animal shelters. The automated adoption gallery has significantly reduced the administrative burden on shelter staff, allowing them to focus more on animal care and less on web updates. Most importantly, the improved visibility of available pets has directly contributed to higher adoption rates and shorter lengths of stay for the animals in their care.
