WebCitz started working with this client in 2009
- Client: International Surgical Sleep Society
- Platform: Joomla
- Industry: Medical / Dental
- Services: Maintenance / Support, Web Development, Web Hosting
The Challenge
In 2009, medical societies were just beginning to move away from paper-heavy administration toward digital member management. ISSS faced several specific hurdles:
- Global Administrative Access: Because the society’s leadership was spread across international medical institutions, they needed a centralized way for various admins to update the site without knowing code.
- Professional Credibility: The site needed to host peer-reviewed news and publications, requiring a clean, authoritative structure that would be respected by surgeons and researchers.
- Member Directory Maintenance: They needed a way to frequently update bio pages for world-renowned surgeons and specialists in the field of sleep surgery.
The WebCitz Solution
We provided a scalable, “management-first” Joomla environment that allowed the society to grow its global influence:
- Custom Joomla Design (2009): We built a bespoke Joomla platform tailored to the needs of a professional medical association. In 2009, Joomla was the cutting-edge choice for handling the complex user permissions the society required.
- Specialized Admin Portal: We developed a secure administrative area that allowed designated board members and staff to:
- Update Bio Pages: Easily manage the profiles of the society’s leadership and expert members.
- Publish Research News: Post updates regarding surgical breakthroughs, annual meetings, and clinical trials.
- Manage Society Documents: Provide a repository for bylaws, meeting minutes, and professional guidelines.
- Research Publication Support: We helped architect a section for the society to list news and publications, making it easier for the global medical community to stay informed on the latest surgical techniques for sleep apnea and snoring.
- Managed Hosting & Transition Support: We provided high-performance hosting for the society for several years. When they eventually decided to move the site to WordPress years later to align with their internal team’s preferences, we assisted in the technical handover and continued our relationship as their trusted domain registrar.
The Result
The digital foundation WebCitz built in 2009 served the International Surgical Sleep Society during a critical era of growth. By providing an easy-to-use administrative system, we empowered their leadership to focus on medical advancement rather than web maintenance. While the society eventually moved to a different platform, our relationship continues today through the management of their domain name – a testament to the 15+ years of trust we have established.
