Disconnected ecommerce and POS systems once slowed Pittsford Florist with tedious manual data entry and errors. This case study explores how a custom Laravel integration brought seamless automation, syncing products effortlessly between Shopify and HANA POS to support fast-paced floral operations.
The Challenge
In the fast-moving floral industry, inventory and product accuracy are critical, especially during peak seasons like Valentine’s Day or Mother’s Day. Pittsford Florist faced a major operational hurdle:
- Disconnected Systems: They utilized Shopify for their beautiful, customer-facing storefront and HANA POS for their internal shop management, wire service integrations, and delivery routing.
- Manual Data Entry: There was no native link between the two platforms. New products, descriptions, and pricing had to be entered twice – once in Shopify and once in HANA – leading to wasted administrative hours and the risk of human error.
- Complex Data Mapping: Floral products often have specific attributes (seasonal availability, flower types, and arrangement sizes) that need to be mapped precisely between a web environment and a specialized POS environment.
The WebCitz Solution
We implemented a “Seamless Synchronization” roadmap, moving away from manual entry toward a fully automated data pipeline:
- Custom Laravel Integration: Rather than relying on limited third-party connectors, we built a bespoke Laravel application designed specifically as a “private bridge” between Shopify and HANA POS.
- API Architecture: We leveraged the Shopify Admin API and the HANA POS API to facilitate the secure transfer of product data. Our custom app acted as the “brain,” translating Shopify’s product structure into a format that HANA POS could ingest and display correctly.
- Automated Product Pushing: We developed the logic to “push” products from the Shopify environment into the HANA system. This ensured that whenever a new arrangement was designed and added to the website, it was instantly available for the shop staff to manage within their POS.
- Data Integrity & Filtering: We implemented custom filtering within the Laravel app to ensure only relevant product data was transferred, preventing “data bloat” and ensuring that the HANA POS remained clean and easy for the staff to navigate.
- Scalable Private App Infrastructure: By building this as a private app, we provided Pittsford Florist with an exclusive, high-performance tool that was not subject to the updates or limitations of public Shopify apps.
The Result
By the end of 2021, Pittsford Florist possessed a streamlined, automated backend that significantly reduced administrative overhead. Our custom Laravel integration eliminated the need for double-entry, allowing their team to focus on floral artistry rather than data management. By trusting WebCitz to build a technical bridge between Shopify and HANA POS, Pittsford Florist secured a scalable infrastructure that could handle the high volume and rapid turnover of a top-tier retail floral operation.
