- Client: Wine Gear Store (website offline)
- Platform: Other
- Industry: Food & Beverage
- Services: Digital Marketing, Maintenance / Support
The Challenge
Operating a specialty retail store with thousands of unique SKUs (from high-end decanters to rare wine racks) presents significant logistical hurdles:
- Inventory Synchronization: The biggest pain point was “double selling.” If a customer bought the last aerator in the Pueblo shop, the website needed to reflect that immediately to prevent online orders that couldn’t be fulfilled.
- Payment Friction: They needed a professional, seamless checkout experience that allowed customers to stay on-site during credit card processing, rather than being redirected to a third-party gateway.
- Local vs. National Identity: The design had to appeal to local wine enthusiasts in Pueblo while appearing sophisticated enough for national gift-givers.
The WebCitz Solution
We provided a high-level integration strategy that turned their website into a true extension of their physical counter:
- POS & CRM Inventory Integration: We performed the technical “heavy lifting” of modifying their Point of Sale system to communicate with the website’s database. This ensured that inventory levels were synced in near real-time. When a bottle chiller was sold in-store, the digital stock level was updated automatically, protecting the shop’s reputation for reliability.
- PayPal Payments Pro Integration: To elevate the customer experience, we implemented PayPal Payments Pro. This allowed Wine Gear Store to accept credit cards directly on their website. By keeping customers on their own domain during the checkout process, we helped increase conversion rates and established a higher level of brand trust.
- Specialized Retail Web Design (2013): We designed a custom storefront that prioritized product photography and ease of discovery. We categorized accessories in a way that made sense for “gift-giving” (e.g., By Price, By Occasion, By Varietal), making the site a go-to resource for holiday and wedding shopping.
- Managed Web Stewardship: Beyond the build, we provided ongoing management and maintenance, ensuring the server remained fast and the technical bridge between the store and the site stayed secure.
The Result
By 2013 standards, Wine Gear Store possessed a highly advanced retail ecosystem. Our work allowed them to compete with larger national retailers by offering a professional, integrated shopping experience. The successful POS integration saved their staff countless hours of manual inventory updates and ensured that their “digital cellar” was always accurately stocked for their customers.
