The Challenge
Decor Outdoor, a retailer of high-end outdoor furniture and decor, needed a website that mirrored the “minimalist luxury” of their products. They required extreme speed, a highly specific visual aesthetic, and custom functionality that standard e-commerce templates couldn’t provide. Specifically, they needed a system that could manage complex product data in the backend while delivering a fast, app-like experience on the frontend.
The WebCitz Solution
WebCitz engineered a cutting-edge headless solution that prioritized performance and design precision:
- Decoupled Architecture (Headless): We utilized BigCommerce as a robust “commerce engine” to handle the heavy lifting of product data, customer accounts, and order processing. For the “head” (the frontend), we built a custom application using Nuxt.js.
- High-Performance Frontend: By hosting the Nuxt.js frontend on a Digital Ocean droplet, we ensured the site was lean and fast. The site utilizes API calls to pull data, resulting in fast loading for product and category screens.
- Custom Visual Engineering: We worked in lockstep with the client to achieve a “clean and minimal” look. Key features included:
- AJAX Product Filters: Allowing users to sort through high-end outdoor furniture without a single page refresh.
- Visual Swatches: Intuitive, easy-to-use color and material swatches on product pages to help customers visualize luxury finishes.
- High-Impact Imagery: Large-scale banners on the home and category pages to highlight the brand’s aesthetic.
- Custom Checkout Override: To meet the client’s specific business requirements, we developed a custom checkout override. This provided additional functionality not available in the standard BigCommerce checkout, ensuring the final step of the customer journey was as tailored as the first.
The Result
The launch of the headless Decor Outdoor site positioned the brand at the forefront of e-commerce technology. The combination of BigCommerce’s reliability and Nuxt.js’s speed created a frictionless shopping environment that handles complex product variations with ease.
