Redesigning A Website

Redesigning A Website with the Customer in Mind

When you give us a call, you will be speaking with one of our friendly experts who can evaluate your current website and assess what we can do to improve your current design or help you increase your conversions.

Whatever the case, you will want to get in touch with experts who understand the most cost-effective website redesign is one that prioritizes the customer experience. At WebCitz, we emphasize redesigning with a customer-centric approach.

Do I Need a Website Redesign?

Do I Need a Website Redesign or a Website Refresh?

A question you may be asking is: “Do I need a website redesign or a website refresh? What’s the difference?”

A website redesign often involves extensive coding, core structure, and visual changes to your website. This may include changes to the functionality of the website, navigation and module additions or improvements, or even migrating from Joomla to WordPress or another CMS platform.

A website refresh occurs when the core structure and functionality stays mostly the same and only minor modifications are made to improve the look and feel of the website, such as user experience-related adjustments, or updates to the colors and typography.

Regardless of whether you need a website redesign or a website refresh, you will find that investing in these will significantly impact your customers’ experience as they use your website. If you are considering a website redesign, you will want to make sure you carefully research a company who is concerned about the appearance, user experience, usability, and conversion rates of your website.

Planning A Website Redesign

Planning A Website Redesign

Budget – When redesigning your website, you will need to know what your approximate project budget is. Having a dollar range in mind can help inform your strategy throughout the project.

Project Scope – Your web developer will need to have an idea of the scope of your project, including the amount of web pages you will have on your website, if there is any custom functionality, and how many unique page templates are required.

5 Questions to Ask Before a Website Redesign

5 Questions to Ask Before a Website Redesign

Before investing in a website redesign, be sure to ask yourself several important questions:

  1. What are your most valuable landing pages right now?
  2. Who is coming to your website?
  3. Why are these people coming to your website?
  4. What currently isn’t meeting your customer’s needs?
  5. How will you evaluate the success of the website redesign?
  6. Does my website need to be ADA-compliant?

Even if you don’t know the answers to these questions, our website redesign experts are here to walk you through these in order to determine how the redesign will personally benefit your website. We want to ensure that you are getting your website redesigned for all the right reasons.

Which Web Pages Are Most Valuable

Know Your Website’s Most Valuable Pages

  • Your most valuable pages are going to be the ones with both high conversion and high traffic. If you alter the user experience or design of these pages too much, the results could be disastrous. Pay attention to the relationship between the website traffic and conversions on these pages and approach them with caution.
  • Even if your pages with high conversion and low traffic do not currently have a lot of traffic coming to them, you will still want to approach the redesign process with caution, knowing that any changes could impact the user experience and the conversions.
  • For pages with high traffic but low conversion rates, you have more wiggle room to make improvements. As a result, talk with your web developers and marketing team about experimenting more with these pages during the redesign process.
  • Finally, for pages with low traffic and low conversion rates, you will want to redesign them significantly to increase conversions and improve the overall appearance. Because of the low traffic to these pages, you will not lose any conversions.
What Motivates Your Users

Understand What Motivates Your Users

Next, you will need to understand who is visiting your website and why. Talk with your web development team about what pages on your website are the most valuable, who is visiting them, and why they are visiting them.

According to the 4 new moments every marketer should know article from Google, you’ll need to pay attention to the following aspects of your consumer’s interests:

  • I-want-to-know – According to Google, 65% of online customers research more information online now than they did even several years ago. In addition, 66% of mobile phone users will use their phones to look up something they saw in a TV commercial. Your website visitors are coming to your website because they are curious about your brand or product and want to know more information about it.
  • I-want-to-go – There has been 2x the increase in “near me” search interest in the past year, and 82% of mobile phone users use a search engine when they are looking up a local business. Your website visitors want to contact you to find a physical location they can go to.
  • I-want-to-do – Approximately 91% of mobile phone users use their phones for ideas while doing a task. Over 100 million hours of how-to videos are viewed on YouTube each year. Keep in mind that your website visitors will want to learn about how to use your product or service.
  • I-want-to-buy82% of smartphone users research on their phones while shopping to decide on what to purchase. In addition, there has been over 29% of an increase in mobile conversion rates in the past year. Your website visitors will want to buy something from you. Discuss with your web marketing and development team how you can market your products or services to increase sales and conversion rates.
Helpful Tools for Your Website Redesign

Helpful Tools for Your Website Redesign

Our website redesign experts and user experience designers can help you understand what is convincing or helping your customers complete the actions they intended to take, and if anything is preventing them from completing these actions.

For example, evaluating your call-to-action buttons, contact forms, and checkout areas and finding there were loopholes or barriers may be key in understanding why there were less conversions in the first place. As you and your web developer plan for a website redesign, the following tools can provide you valuable feedback about what needs to change and what needs to stay the same:

  • Use analytics platforms like Google Analytics to assess the traffic coming to and the conversions while on your website.
  • Use heatmaps to discover what your users are clicking on.
  • Use feedback widgets and on-site surveys for your visitors to use to leave comments about what elements of your site are working or not working for them.

How do you redesign a website?

Before your project commences, an initial meeting will be undergone to ensure your vision is understood and for you to become familiar with the team members working on your project. Such team members, you will be the project manager and designer(s). Prepare for an in-depth discussion with the team, where the scope of work will be defined and goals that need to be accomplished.

Following the meeting, the designer will create a logo, mood board, or landing page. They will then use this as a foundation for your design before progressing on to the content (if you require it). If so, our project manager will guide you through the process according to the designs provided, and if you’re happy, we move on to the development stage. Then once developed, if you require any additional maintenance or content services, we can happily do this for you at an extra cost.

At Webcitz, we know the hard work, time, and skills that have been allotted to create a website. Similarly, we also understand that a website can be the face of your brand, and it’s perfectly normal not to want to start fresh.

However, we also know that when starting a new website, you get a fresh opportunity to show where it stands today and where you’d like to be in the upcoming years. Plus, modern websites often have more functionality allowing for easier updates and maintenance.

Needless to say, though, websites are more than what you see on the surface level, i.e., their physical appearance. To have an efficient and well-run website, you also have to review the site architecture and technology behind it. If either of them are not working well, they could be causing your Google rankings and user experience to suffer.

Ultimately, it depends on whether you’re looking to update your graphics and content or hit your industry benchmarks such as speed, mobile responsibility, content architecture, etc. Therefore before you make any decision about your website, we recommend evaluating what you’d like to be fixed or updated first.

When your website undergoes the redesign process, it’s custom and truly unique to YOU. Our team listens to your vision, your pain points, and what you’d like to be changed and dedicates themselves to that. The redesigning process involves design mockups, regular discussions with yourself, and incorporating your feedback to make sure it’s the website you wanted. We also have many in-house marketing experts ready to provide you with insights and suggestions on improving your conversion rates. Lastly, your new website that we develop will be faster, more responsive, more SEO friendly, and offer a better mobile experience.

Website redesign is an exciting time to create a fresh identity for your company. We do know that the great factor about design is that it’s completely unique for each website. Therefore due to the different visions we get from our clients, we can’t provide a fixed cost.

The cost can also depend on what design elements you wish to include on your website. For instance, if there are certain effects or changes you’d like to be made. We calculate our quote based on the answers we get from you during our initial discussion.

However, it’s important to note that the price will not vary too much whether we’re redesigning your current one or developing a new one from scratch. Both of these involve the same scope of work to get your website in place.

Anything revolving around website redesign has a great impact on SEO, and it's something that should be dealt with very seriously. We say this because many clients come to us after experiencing badly executed web development projects. What we mean by this is that previous companies charged a lot of money for cutting corners by not doing the mandatory tasks such as 301 redirects, not being mindful of page speed, and reviewing for mobile issues, etc.

All of these and more can cause a great decline and negative impact on your website's SEO value. For this reason, when we're undergoing a website redesign, we stress to every client the importance of our goal that no mistakes are made that can cause negative SEO modifications.

Any improvements that do need to be made should be done through a recurring marketing service to gradually address the numerous factors that go into search placements. By just undergoing a facelift for your website, your SEO rankings won't skyrocket; there's more work that needs to be done behind the scenes.

Most of our website redesign projects tend to take, on average a period of 6-8 week turnaround. However, it could take longer or less time, depending on the website you require. After all, your website redesign is bespoke, and until we know your vision and requirements, we can’t supply you with an estimated time frame for completion.

To make sure our estimation is accurate, we will ask you questions before your project begins. The questions will orientate around your needs and your vision. Another important point to consider is that the duration can be affected based on the speed of your input, availability, feedback, content, and the complexity of the redesign.

Most companies tend to redesign their website every three years. This is a common interpretation from many web design experts in the business. However, it’s difficult to provide you with exact data on redesigning.

You can also undergo a quick google search using this question. But be warned, you might fight conflicting statistics and information based on the duration of the website redesign. What we say is, don’t depend on statistics.

It’s your website, and you should redesign it when it feels right. If you get a miserable feeling looking at it and frustrated by its presence, then get it redesigned! It’s not rocket science.
